Class Reflection 1-22-08 and 1-24-08

There are so many different issues that need to be considered when discussing immigration and the education of immigration. There never seems to be that one good solution that works perfectly for everyone. How can we have children in our classrooms who have never stepped foot in a classroom and are 5 grade levels below everyone else in the class. Its not fair for these students to take the time to sit in a classroom in which they don't learn a single thing. The best solution i would say is to start off in classrooms within a school that teach these children the basics of communicating in English. However letting them interact with the whole class during recess, lunch and gym. This also presented controversy within our class about how taking students out of the classroom will effect how they are viewed by other students. I still believe this is the best option for now. There is no way to avoid it all.

Class Reflection 1-18-08

I liked our class Friday. It was a hard topic to discuss though because there is no real solution to the discussion. This always makes a really good discussion but I get really frustrated really easily. It makes you think how ignorant and self centered people can be when not thinking about other cultures.

Class Reflection 1-16-08

I really enjoyed today's class period. I think that white superiority is something that we ignore. Like we mentioned in class, we are so used to white privilege that we don't take the time to think about it. We can be arrogant and forget that there are others everyday who struggle because they do not have white privilege. It is not an ok behavior but there are also certain ways of dealing with situations in order to help others become more aware of the problem and avoid confrontation at the same time.

I also really enjoyed the spider web activity. I wasn't too sure about it at first but I think it got a lot of us thinking more in depth and on many different topics.
